Runswick BayRunswick Bay is a picture postcard beach beautifully fringed with golden sand not far from Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. The beach enjoys a sheltered position thanks to the imposing Lingrow Knowle Cragg.
During the summer months the beach is popular with families who bring their deck chairs and picnics, children will enjoy making sandcastles, beachcombing and playing in the sea (the sea is safe to play in but children should not be left alone, experienced swimmers should take precautions and beware of strong north-easterly winds). In the winter the beach attracts a totally different kind of visitor with artists flocking to the area to be inspired by the breathtaking beauty of the beach on a cold windy winters day.
Whatever the season you visit Runswick Beach during low tide it is not uncommon to find Jurassic fossils, some of the best examples are on display in Whitby Museum.
